Shunsuke's stopover notes

This is a station where you can look at the lake and decide what to eat and take home.

Shunsuke Amamiya sees Tamatsukuri as a place to plan a food stop at the gateway to Lake Kasumigaura. Eating a Name Pakkun takes only a few dozen minutes. But look at the lake from the terrace, browse the shirauo icefish, wakasagi smelt, and morning-harvested vegetables in the direct-sales area, then walk a little toward Fureai Land, and Namegata's fields and lake come together. There is no need to rush through it as though it were a large attraction. Enjoy the lake breeze and choose one thing to take home today; that unhurried pace is part of its appeal.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Tamatsukuri centers on Namegata City's Koikoi Tourism and Products Hall, bringing together food, farm-direct shopping, and a lakeside break beside Lake Kasumigaura. For navigation, the Japanese address is 茨城県行方市玉造甲1963-5. Look for more than 80 kinds of vegetables over the year; prepared products made with locally caught carp, wakasagi (Japanese pond smelt), and shirauo (icefish); fresh icefish, smelt, and shrimp in summer; and Namegata Burgers such as the catfish Name Pakkun. Editor Shunsuke Amamiya recommends it as a place to choose local flavors while looking at the lake, beyond a simple produce stand. Combine it with neighboring Kasumigaura Fureai Land, Kasumigaura Dobutsu to Minna no Ie animal facility, the waterside park, or the Kasumigaura Ring Ring cycling route for anything from a 30-minute break to half a day with children.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Local burgers with a lake view are the heart of this station

Try Name Pakkun made with Lake Kasumigaura catfish, Koi Pakkun with carp, or the pork and duck Pakkun burgers. Their appeal goes beyond novelty: eating one on the terrace while looking over Lake Kasumigaura is a distinctly Tamatsukuri experience.

02

The direct-sales area offers produce from fields and the lake

Alongside more than 80 kinds of vegetables over the year, you will find lake products such as simmered carp, wakasagi smelt, and shirauo icefish. Fresh icefish, smelt, and shrimp also arrive in summer, so the selection changes with the seasons.

03

Nearby attractions make a family stop more rewarding

Kasumigaura Fureai Land, Kasumigaura Dobutsu to Minna no Ie, the waterside park, and Rainbow Tower are close by, giving families more to do after shopping and eating at the station. Younger children can play at the park, while school-age children can explore the animals and talk about the lake and views from the tower.

04

A useful rest and refreshment stop by bike or car

It also works well as a rest and refreshment stop on the Tsukuba Kasumigaura Ring Ring Road cycling route. Whether you arrive by car or bicycle, you can pause beside the lake.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A first visit or a stop around lunchtime

Eat a Namegata Burger on the terrace

Choose the catfish Name Pakkun and head to the terrace overlooking Lake Kasumigaura. The lake view, as well as the unusual burger, makes this a pleasant stop to remember.

Food corner → terrace seating → direct-sales area.

For the menu, sellouts, and serving hours, follow the latest official or in-store information on the day.

Shopping before heading home

Buy both fresh vegetables and lake foods

Look beyond the vegetables to simmered carp and prepared shirauo icefish and wakasagi smelt products to get a fuller sense of Tamatsukuri. Exploring it as a Lake Kasumigaura products hall is more rewarding than treating it solely as a farm stand.

Direct-sales area → processed fish products → seasonal farm produce.

Fresh fish and seasonal goods vary with deliveries and the time of day.

Families with children aged 2–6

Pair a visit with the waterside park for young children

Have a meal and get drinks at the station, then head to the waterside park in adjacent Kasumigaura Fureai Land. Summer water-play events such as Zabuzabu Stream may be held, so check the latest information from the tourism association and facility before visiting.

Michi-no-Eki → waterside park → Kasumigaura Dobutsu to Minna no Ie if time allows.

Water play, events, and closing days change by season. Bring a change of clothes or plan for heat as needed.

A half-day outing

For school-age children, add the lake, animals, and Rainbow Tower

Combine Kasumigaura Dobutsu to Minna no Ie, Rainbow Tower, and views of Lake Kasumigaura for an outing beyond a meal. The lake's scale, wind, bridge, animals, and tower views give children plenty to remember and discuss.

Michi-no-Eki → Kasumigaura Dobutsu to Minna no Ie → Rainbow Tower or a lakeside walk.

Check each facility's official information for admission fees, last admission, and event dates.

Users of the Kasumigaura Ring Ring Road

Refuel during a cycling trip

On a ride along the lake, you can combine the food corner with soft-serve ice cream, drinks, and small souvenirs at the station. Although this is a roadside station for drivers, it also serves as a break on a bicycle trip.

Ring Ring Road → Michi-no-Eki → Kasumigaura Bridge area.

When busy, take care around bicycle parking areas and pedestrian paths.

A day when you want another food experience

Sweet potato fans can continue to Namegata Farmers Village

After tasting the lake's foods at the station, continue to La Poppo Namegata Farmers Village if time allows. Its Baked Sweet Potato Factory Museum, sweet potato desserts, and farm experiences add another dimension to a food-focused trip through Namegata.

Michi-no-Eki → Namegata Farmers Village.

Check the facility's official information for opening days, activities, and whether reservations are needed.
