Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Fukushima opened on April 27, 2022, in Osaso, western Fukushima City, along Fukushima Prefectural Route 5 (Fruit Line) at the foot of the Azuma Mountains. Beside Fukushima-Osaso IC on the Tohoku-Chuo Expressway, its farm shop stocks strawberries, cherries, peaches, pears, grapes, and apples as the seasons change. At Azuma Kitchen restaurant, try Fukushima wappa-meshi, rice served in a round wooden box, or ika-ninjin, a local squid and carrot dish. The food court offers dishes using Hayama Kogen pork and Date chicken, Fukushima gyoza, and curry. Momo Rabi Kids Park, an indoor play area, joins a dog run, rental cycles, showers, and a multipurpose plaza. Parking, toilets, part of the baby care room, and the road information corner are open 24 hours. Guide Shunsuke Sakakibara recommends deciding your order of stops when you arrive, since there is plenty to eat, buy, and do in one place.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Beside an expressway interchange: qualifying ETC2.0 stops within two hours receive a fare adjustment

The station is beside Fukushima-Osaso IC on the Tohoku-Chuo Expressway. According to Fukushima City Tourism Note, a vehicle equipped with ETC2.0 can exit temporarily at Fukushima-Osaso IC and return through the same IC within two hours; if the conditions are met, the toll is adjusted to what it would have been without leaving the expressway. Conditions include using the same ETC card throughout the journey, so check the latest guidance before using the scheme.

02

The farm shop's fruit selection changes with the seasons

Fukushima Prefecture's roadside station guide lists strawberries, cherries, peaches, pears, grapes, and apples at the farm shop. Vegetables, processed meat products, prepared foods, sweets, potted plants, bouquets, local sake, and crafts share the same floor, so even a short shopping stop offers a taste of Fukushima.

03

Choose local dishes at the restaurant or food court

Azuma Kitchen restaurant serves Fukushima wappa-meshi, rice served in a round wooden box, and ika-ninjin, a local squid and carrot dish. In the food court, Fuki-shima Shokudo serves Hayama Kogen pork and Date chicken dishes; Mendokoro Hirota Seifunjo offers freshly milled noodles and Fukushima gyoza; and Curry Air Feeling Emu serves curry. Azuma Kitchen opens at 11:00 and takes last orders at 15:00, while the food court opens 10:30–18:00 (last order 17:30). Choose according to your arrival time.

04

An indoor play area and dog run give you options in changing weather

Momo Rabi Kids Park is an indoor play area for children of elementary school age or younger and their guardians, with three timed sessions from 10:00 to 16:30. Fukushima Prefecture's indoor play area guide says admission is free. The dog run is also free and needs no registration. It has two areas, for small to medium dogs (under 25 kg) and medium to large dogs (10 kg or more), plus a dog shower. On rainy days use the indoor space; in fair weather consider the multipurpose plaza or dog run.

05

24-hour facilities are available for overnight breaks

Parking, toilets, part of the baby care room, and the road information corner are available 24 hours. The baby care room has a nursing room, hot water for preparing formula, and a diaper changing table; corridors are relatively wide. When shops are closed, the station can serve as a place to nap or take a break with an infant.

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A drive toward Fukushima City or a lunch break during expressway travel

Make this your lunch stop and combine a meal with shopping

For a seated meal of local dishes, choose Azuma Kitchen; for a range of choices before sitting down, especially with children, choose the food court. Browse fruit and vegetables at the farm shop afterward to fit a meal and shopping into about an hour.

Park → toilets → Azuma Kitchen or food court → farm shop

Azuma Kitchen takes last orders at 15:00. If you may arrive later, allow time to switch to the food court (last order 17:30) or takeout.

Families with children of elementary school age or younger; rainy or very hot days

Plan half a day around the indoor play area

Momo Rabi Kids Park runs three timed sessions, with tickets distributed from 30 minutes before each. Aim to arrive 30 minutes before your preferred session, and use the wait for shopping or a meal. The baby care room has a nursing room, hot water for preparing formula, and a diaper changing table.

Collect a ticket → eat or shop → kids' park → farm shop

Admission is capped at 100 people including guardians. Tickets are first come, first served, so your preferred session may fill up on holidays.

Long-distance travel in an ETC2.0-equipped vehicle

Take a two-hour break from the expressway

A temporary exit at Fukushima-Osaso IC can qualify for a toll adjustment to the same fare as a journey without exiting, provided you return through the same IC within two hours and meet the other conditions. A meal, toilet break, and fruit shopping can fit within the two-hour window.

Fukushima-Osaso IC → Michi-no-Eki Fukushima → return through the same IC

Conditions include using the same ETC card throughout the journey and returning within two hours. The fare is adjusted later. Check the latest guidance before using the scheme.

A drive with a pet

Stop with your dog for exercise and a break

The free dog run needs no registration and has two areas by dog size. A dog shower lets you rinse paws before returning to the car. A quick meal from the food court or takeout shop can fit around the dog's break.

Park → dog run → dog shower → takeout and farm shop

Winter opening hours may be shorter. Follow signs on site for the dog run's weight ranges (under 25 kg / 10 kg or more).

Public transport trips and days without a rental car
