A short break along the Tadami Line or National Route 252
Take a taste of Kaneyama home in 30 minutes
After parking, head first to the toilets and shop. Look for naturally carbonated water, red pumpkin sweets, mountain vegetables and pickles; add red pumpkin or soba soft serve if time allows. Even without entering the restaurant, you can take home a taste of Oku-Aizu.
Parking → toilets → shop → soft serve → departure
Naturally carbonated water and seasonal goods depend on deliveries. Leave room to choose from what is available in the shop.
Around lunchtime when heading from Aizubange Interchange toward Tadami
Make Kobushikan your lunch stop
For lunch, consider azaki radish Takato soba, mukashi soba or katsudon. If companions eat less or children are with you, dessert and shop sweets offer separate options after the meal.
Station → Kobushikan restaurant → shop → check tourist information
The restaurant serves during lunchtime. If you arrive late, switch from a meal-focused plan to light food or shopping.
When you want a hot spring without a long detour
Finish with a short visit to Nakagawa Onsen
After eating and shopping at the station, head to nearby Nakagawa Onsen for a rest that includes an Oku-Aizu bath. Expect the feel of a local communal bath, not a large tourist spa.
Station → Nakagawa Onsen → return to the Tadami Line route
Opening times start at different hours on weekdays and Saturdays than on Sundays and holidays. If bathing is your main purpose, check the latest notice before going.
A photo break on a fine day or a drive with a rail enthusiast
Continue to Tadami Line and Tadami River scenery
Continue to Kaneyama Fureai Square or Mugenkyo Gorge to link a food stop with Tadami River scenery. Train times and river mist are hard to predict, so buy a drink at the station and allow extra time.
Station → Kaneyama Fureai Square → Mugenkyo Gorge area
For photography, the weather and train timetable affect what you see. Focusing on one place is also an option.
Seasonal trips in late May–early June or early August
Add flowers or a lake in early summer and summer
In early summer, consider the azaki radish flower field on the Tarobu Plateau; in summer, Lake Numazawa's lakeside festival or campground. Try azaki radish soba or red pumpkin soft serve at the station before heading out to connect local food with the scenery.
Station → azaki radish flower field or Lake Numazawa → return journey
Lakeside facilities, the campground and the Fairy Museum may close in winter or operate seasonally. Allow extra parking and travel time on event days.
