Riho's food-stop notes

Whether you sit down for a meal or just have a croquette, you can still taste Mogami.

Riho Tsukioka sees more here than a new rest stop. Check road and tourism information at Attse, then go next door to Yana Chaya for sweetfish or Mogami Wase soba. If time is short, choose an asparagus croquette, imoni croquette or vegetable bread. With several levels of eating and shopping, you can fit a taste of Mogami Town into your Route 47 plans.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Mogami brings together Attse, which opened beside the Mogami Oguni River in November 2023, and the neighboring Kawa-no-Eki Yana Chaya Mogami. Use Attse for tourist information, a 24-hour rest area, asparagus and imoni croquettes, vegetable bread and baked sweets. For a full meal, head next door for soba made entirely from Mogami Wase buckwheat, sweetfish dishes and farm produce. Nearby Semi Onsen and Semi Gorge can turn a Route 47 rest stop into a food and riverside detour. Imoni is a Yamagata-style taro stew.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Rest at Attse and eat at Yana Chaya

The main roadside station has tourist information, road information, a 24-hour rest area and light food. Next-door Yana Chaya Mogami has a restaurant and farm shop, with soba made entirely from Mogami Wase buckwheat, sweetfish, wild vegetables and fresh produce. Choose Attse for a short stop; include Yana Chaya if you are stopping for lunch.

02

Experience Mogami Town's seasons beside the Oguni River

The gathering space faces the Mogami Oguni River. Fresh green leaves in spring, sweetfish in summer, buckwheat flowers and autumn foliage, and snow in winter change the scenery along the way. With hot-spring areas and a gorge nearby, leave time to step outside as well as shop.

03

A practical stop on Route 47

The toilets and rest area are open 24 hours. Listed parking has 58 standard-car spaces, five large-vehicle spaces, two courtesy spaces and one EV space. During the day, stop for snacks and travel advice; late at night and early in the morning, plan on using the rest facilities.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Traveling toward Shinjo or Naruko

Take a 30-minute break on Route 47

After parking, use the toilets and rest area, then check road information and tourist brochures. If you are hungry, try an asparagus or imoni croquette, vegetable bread or baked sweets. Even without sitting down at the restaurant, you can take a little taste of Mogami Town with you.

Park → Toilets → Rest area → Snacks and information → Depart

The tourist information desk and snack counter are mainly daytime services. At night and early in the morning, use the 24-hour rest facilities.

A weekend drive centered on food

Make lunch the main event and visit Yana Chaya

If your stop includes lunch, plan on the adjacent Yana Chaya Mogami from the start. Its 100% Mogami Wase soba, sweetfish dishes and spicy miso ramen, together with wild greens and vegetables from the farm shop, make this a food destination.

Check information at Attse → Eat at Yana Chaya → Shikika farm shop → Pause beside the river

The restaurant and farm shop may be busy at weekend lunchtime. Leave room to switch to croquettes or bread.

Adults, hot-spring fans and rainy days

Finish a half-day detour at Semi Onsen

After a meal or snack, drive a few minutes to the Semi no Yu public bath in Semi Onsen. It has an indoor bath, a steam-heated bath, an outdoor bath and a free footbath, shifting the day from a highway break to time in a hot-spring town. This combination also works on a rainy day.

Roadside station → Yana Chaya or snacks → Semi no Yu → Head home

Check Semi no Yu's cleaning hours and temporary closures, and bring cash. Check in advance whether bathing supplies are provided.

A drive that could use a little more scenery

Walk briefly through the gorge and legends from spring to autumn

On a clear day with safe footing, add Semi Gorge and Benkei's Inkstone and Throwing Pine. A view along Route 47, a walk around Semi-Onsen Station and these small sites associated with the Yoshitsune and Benkei legends bring local history into a rest stop.

Roadside station → Semi Gorge viewpoint → Benkei's Inkstone area → Hot-spring town

The gorge's suggested sightseeing season is April through November. After rain or in winter, put footing and road conditions first.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Under 1 year
★★★★☆

A nursing room, baby changing station and 24-hour rest facilities suit a short break.

A simple sequence is toilets, feeding, a moment by the river, then departure. For lunch, reach Yana Chaya before the crowds or choose a light snack.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Meals and breaks are convenient, but the station is not a place for extended play.

Hold children's hands beside the river and keep browsing at the product shelves and farm shop brief. For active play, add a separate destination such as Maemori Kogen.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Sweetfish, soba and river scenery can each become a small focus for a visit.

A croquette or bread can make the break easier before moving on to the hot spring or gorge. In winter, prioritize snowy-road and cold-weather preparation.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

The Oguni River, traditional yana weir fishing, Yoshitsune and Benkei legends, and hot springs offer talking points.

Add Semi Gorge or Benkei's Inkstone to explore local history and nature as well as food.

Spaces used for events

Michi-no-Eki Mogami Appreciation Festival

Held on June 6, 2026, from 10:00 to 15:00, with food featuring asparagus, Mogami beef and tama konnyaku. After this event, check announcements for any future appreciation or anniversary festivals.

Winter stamp festival

A shopping-linked event held from January through March 2026. For any similar winter event involving both the roadside station and Yana Chaya, check official and tourist information.

Mogami Town summer and autumn events

The tourism association publicizes events around town, including the August 2026 Mogami Oguni River char catching event and Maemori Kogen Summer Festival, and the Mogami Festival in September.

New soba season

Mogami Wase buckwheat generally flowers in early September and is harvested in mid-October. New-soba festivals and a soba meal at Yana Chaya make autumn an appealing time to visit.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

The main station offers information and rest; next-door Yana Chaya offers meals and farm produce

Attse provides tourist and road information for Mogami Town and nearby areas. At Yana Chaya, seek out 100% Mogami Wase soba, sweetfish and farm produce. Planning the two neighboring facilities together makes the stop more useful.

Light food works for a short stop or when the restaurant is busy

Attse's snack counter offers asparagus and imoni croquettes, vegetable bread, baked sweets and jam. Even when lunch is too late or the restaurant is busy, you can still sample local flavors.

Leave flexibility at Yana Chaya on weekend lunchtimes

Many visitors come for the restaurant, soba and sweetfish. At weekend lunchtime, allow extra time and keep snacks, the farm shop or a riverside break as alternatives if the restaurant is busy.

Enjoyment of the riverside changes with weather and season

The gathering space beside the Mogami Oguni River is inviting, but after rain, in snow or in severe cold, a rest and shopping may work better than lingering outside. Summer brings sweetfish; autumn brings buckwheat flowers and foliage; winter brings snow.
