Nono’s stopover notes

Toilets, food, shopping and a hot spring in an easy order for families

Nono Okumura sees this station as a place to handle several family needs in one stop along Route 107. Start with the toilet and its diaper-changing table, eat and shop at Presso, then finish at the hot spring in the afternoon if time allows. Because the facilities share one site, you need not get children in and out of the car repeatedly.

If you make just one stop between Honjo and Yokote, this is an easy one to plan: it has both a hot spring and a supermarket.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Higashiyuri lies about halfway between Yurihonjo and Yokote on National Route 107, which runs east to west across southern Akita. Nicknamed “Kizakura no Sato” (Village of Yellow Cherry Blossoms), it brings together the mildly alkaline natural hot spring Kizakura Onsen Yurari, a seven-shop complex called Fureai Shopping Plaza Presso with Tokusan Ichiba farm shop, a supermarket, eateries and a café restaurant, plus a free rest area open 9:00–21:00 and a multipurpose toilet with a diaper-changing table. Parking for 202 cars makes it a practical family stop for toilets, a meal, shopping and a bath during a long drive.
