How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

First on arrival
Locate the toilets and farm market entrance

The station is compact. Decide quickly on shopping, toilets, and your next destination instead of planning a long stay.

What to buy
Vegetables, rice, garlic, and black garlic

The direct-sales shelves offer a taste of Rokunohe. There may be more choice earlier in the day, and popular items can run low.

What to eat
Consider a set meal or curry at Rokumian

The official site lists a ginger pork set meal and Aomori Shamrock curry, among other dishes. Current posted dining hours are 11:00–14:00; check the official site for that day’s opening and menu availability.

With children
Keep the station stop short; go to Tateno Park for outdoor play

After using the toilets and browsing the market, drive a few minutes to the park in good weather for time to move around.

On a rainy day
Consider the Former Tomabechi Residence and Rokunohe Onsen

A short cultural-property visit or a soak at the onsen, a Japanese hot spring bath, can provide alternatives to outdoor play.

For events
Also check the area around Maple Fureai Center for town events

A summer festival was announced for summer 2026. Check the latest information for dates, venue, and transport.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Rokunohe makes it easy to combine a break on National Route 45 with shopping at Sanchoku Rokunohe no Sato. Browse local vegetables, garlic, black garlic, Aomori Shamrock chicken, rice, and processed foods; learn a little local history at the adjacent Former Tomabechi Residence; or, when children need to move around, continue to Tateno Park or Rokunohe Town General Sports Park. Guide Akari Sawatari points out what to buy, where to find the toilets and food, and rainy-day alternatives for a manageable stop with family or just adults.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Shop at the farm market or eat at Rokumian

The official website lists vegetables grown in Rokunohe, Aomori Shamrock chicken, and original processed products from Michi-no-Eki Rokunohe. The Rokumian dining room lists a ginger pork set meal and Aomori Shamrock curry, among other dishes. Selection and availability are not guaranteed on any given day; check official information before visiting.

02

At this small station, plan the next stop with children

This is not a place for extended play inside the station. After the toilets, shopping, and a small sweet or snack, head to Tateno Park for cherry blossoms and lawns on a fine day, or Rokunohe Town General Sports Park when children want to be active. Either can give children a change of pace after sitting in the car.

03

Add a little local history at the Former Tomabechi Residence next door

The Former Tomabechi Residence, a cultural property designated by Rokunohe Town, is right beside the roadside station. A short visit can reveal something of Rokunohe as a rice-growing, rural town. Opening days and access may change, so check the town’s guidance if visiting it is a priority.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A 30-minute break en route to Misawa, Towada, or Hachinohe

Take home Rokunohe flavors on a short Route 45 break

After the toilets, browse vegetables, rice, garlic, black garlic, and processed foods at Sanchoku Rokunohe no Sato. This is not a large sightseeing complex, so if you know what to buy, the stop can be brief without disrupting your driving rhythm.

Parking → 24-hour toilets → Sanchoku Rokunohe no Sato → information corner → depart.

Selection varies by season and time of day. Be mindful of car temperatures in summer when carrying fresh produce.

Family drives on sunny days and spring cherry-blossom season

If children get restless, continue to Tateno Park

On some days, a brief shopping stop followed by Tateno Park will suit the family better than lingering inside the station. See the cherry blossoms in season, or enjoy the lawns and a walk at other times to stretch after the drive.

Toilets and shopping at the station → drive to Tateno Park → return to National Route 45 if needed.

Parking and nearby roads may be affected during peak bloom or events. Do not force a park stop in the rain.

Adults, trips with grandparents, or a short rainy-day itinerary

Add a little history to the shopping stop

The Former Tomabechi Residence is near the station and offers a short encounter with Rokunohe’s rural culture. Seeing the old house after browsing rice and garlic at the market connects the shopping to local history.

Farm market → Former Tomabechi Residence → Rokunohe Onsen if desired.

Opening days and visiting conditions can change; consult town information if the visit is your main purpose.

Town events such as the Summer Festival and Maple Town Festa

Use the station as a supply stop on town event days

Rokunohe events may take place at Maple Fureai Center or nearby facilities. Use the roadside station as a stop for the toilets, drinks, and a little shopping when heading to an event.

Roadside station → Maple Fureai Center area → onsen or more shopping on the way back.

A Summer Festival announcement was confirmed as of July 15, 2026. Check town information for dates, venue, parking, and traffic restrictions.

A short afternoon change of pace or a break while shopping

For adults, finish quietly with the market and onsen

When you want a modest outing, choose ingredients for dinner at the market and relax at Rokunohe Onsen. Looking at garlic or Aomori Shamrock products before the bath gives even a brief detour a sense of place.

Sanchoku Rokunohe no Sato → Rokunohe Onsen → head home.

Onsen hours, closing days, and fees can change; check the facility’s guidance if bathing is your goal.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Convenient for toilets and brief shopping.

Keep the stop short, and check the facilities that day before relying on nursing or diaper-changing space. In summer, watch the car temperature and sun exposure.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Shopping alone may bore them; adding a park can help.

Hold hands in the market. After shopping, Tateno Park or the General Sports Park offers a change of pace.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Combine choosing ingredients with outdoor play.

Look at garlic and local vegetables, then head to a park on a fine day. In rain, consider the cultural property or onsen to keep the plan flexible.

Elementary-school children
★★★★☆

Connect Rokunohe food and history in a short stop.

After seeing rice, garlic, and Aomori Shamrock chicken at the market, continue to the Former Tomabechi Residence or a town event for more than a shopping stop.

Toilets and parking

As this is not designed for extended play, find the toilets and your departure direction soon after arrival.

Moving through the market

Browsing the produce shelves is the main activity. Hold small children’s hands and decide what to buy promptly.

Outdoor play options

On fine days, head to Tateno Park; for more active play, continue to Rokunohe Town General Sports Park.

Rainy days

Consider the Former Tomabechi Residence or Rokunohe Onsen instead of centering the trip on outdoor parks.

Choosing dinner ingredients or food to eat at your accommodation can make even a short stop satisfying.

An earlier visit may offer more choice; weather and harvests affect selection.

Easy souvenirs

Consider where to store items in the car if odors or storage temperature matter.

Explore a regional ingredient

Aomori Shamrock chicken products

The same products may not always be available; check social media or call if you are making a special trip.

Take a light break

Light meals, sweets, and drinks

On a travel day without a large lunch, stop for a child’s snack or a break before driving.

Hours and offerings may vary by day.

When it is busy

Takeaway vegetables, prepared foods, and processed products

Buy food to enjoy at the next park or at your accommodation instead of eating inside.

An insulated bag is useful for fresh produce.
