How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

First on arrival
Locate parking and toilets

With children, first locate the 24-hour toilets beside the parking area and across the road, plus the nursing room.

For shopping
Rapeseed flower doughnuts and Nanohana soft serve

The doughnuts work as boxed souvenirs or a small snack. The soft serve adds a taste of Yokohama Town even on a short stop.

For a meal
Sakurahime chicken and seasonal dishes

The restaurant opens at 11:00. Scallop availability changes, so choose from the menu available on the day.

In good weather
Drive on to Shizenen and the rapeseed fields

In May, the rapeseed fields in the Daizuda area take center stage. Add a short seasonal drive after shopping at the station.

In rain or winter
Keep the stop short and indoors

Use the toilets, shops, restaurant and charger without packing in outdoor activities. In winter, check Tuesday closures and road conditions.

Heading for Shimokita
Allow time around Yokohama Interchange

Since the Yokohama Interchange on the Shimokita Peninsula Expressway opened, watch for traffic at the entrance and on the road outside. Avoid planning a rushed lunch around one dish.

Akari's family route notes

Decide on toilets, food and shopping before looking for play space.

Michi-no-Eki Yokohama helps families reset before continuing to Shimokita more than it offers extended play. Start with the toilets and nursing room, then a doughnut or meal; add the rapeseed fields if time allows. That sequence gives even a short stop a sense of Yokohama Town.

Small children

Locate the toilets and nursing room immediately after parking. Use the crosswalk to reach facilities across the road.

Food

Even when hoping for scallops, have Sakurahime chicken or sweets in mind if they are unavailable.

Season

Head to the rapeseed fields in May. In rain, strong wind or winter, make a short stop at the station.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Yokohama deserves more than a quick toilet stop before the Shimokita Peninsula. Yokohama Town is known for rapeseed flowers, potatoes, sea cucumbers and scallops. At the market, you can quickly pick up local tastes such as rapeseed flower doughnuts, Nanohana soft serve, rapeseed oil, honey and scallop croquettes. The restaurant offers Sakurahime chicken oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) and fried chicken curry; check shortly before visiting if you want scallops, as the official restaurant page currently says scallop dishes are suspended. With small children, locate the 24-hour toilets and nursing room first, then choose a short meal or shopping stop. In good weather, add Shizenen Nature Experience Land or the rapeseed fields. Since Yokohama Interchange opened, access and traffic on the road outside can vary, so allow time.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Get a taste of the rapeseed flower town through its shops

From rapeseed flower doughnuts and Nanohana soft serve to rapeseed oil, rapeseed flower honey and chiffon cake, Yokohama Town's yellow landscape carries over into its local products. Even outside the spring flowering season, these make memorable souvenirs.

02

An easy family stop on the way to Shimokita

There are 24-hour toilets beside the parking area and across the road, a baby changing table in the women's toilet, and a nursing room and multipurpose toilet across the road. This is not a place for extended play on large equipment, but families can handle toilets, food, shopping and a short break in sequence.

03

Potatoes, chicken and seafood make a stop worthwhile beyond spring

Yokohama Town offers more than the rapeseed bloom. Official information also highlights potatoes, Sakurahime chicken, sea cucumbers and scallops. Sakurahime chicken oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) and fried chicken curry are current restaurant choices. Scallop dishes depend on supply, so it pays to have another choice in mind.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A 30–45 minute stop en route to Mutsu or Oma

Help the family reset before entering the Shimokita Peninsula

On a long drive, locate the toilets and nursing room first, then enter the market once the children are settled. A rapeseed flower doughnut or soft serve can brighten a short break.

Park → 24-hour toilets → market → doughnut or soft serve → depart.

Use the crosswalk for facilities across the road. Allow extra time entering and leaving after the opening of Yokohama Interchange.

A meal break from 11:00 onward

Do not plan lunch around scallops alone

Yokohama Town’s scallops are appealing, but the official restaurant page currently says scallop dishes are suspended because supply is difficult. Sakurahime chicken oyakodon, fried chicken curry and mixed fried dishes are alternative menu choices.

Check crowding at the market → Sensai restaurant → shop after eating.

At lunch or on event days, keep options such as deli food, souvenirs or sweets if the restaurant is busy.

A spring drive through Yokohama Town

In May, use the station as a gateway to the rapeseed fields

During the Rapeseed Flower Festival and maze season, continue to Shizenen near the Daizuda fields. Finish toilets and shopping at the station, then set a manageable walking time in the fields with children.

Michi-no-Eki Yokohama → Shizenen Nature Experience Land and rapeseed fields → return along Mutsu Bay.

Flowering, parking and event dates vary each year. On rainy or windy days, focus on the station instead.

Days unsuited to long outdoor walks; families with school-age children

On rainy days, add the neighboring Yokohama Town Folk Museum

The Yokohama Town Folk Museum opened next to the station in 2025. Station notices have included exhibits such as fossils. Add a brief visit after eating or shopping for a glimpse of local history, even in rain.

Eat and shop at the station → Yokohama Town Folk Museum → rest and depart.

Exhibitions and opening days change; check town or museum notices if the museum is your main purpose.

A brief outdoor break in good weather before returning to the car

For a seaside break, continue to Sunahama Beach

Leave your purchases in the car and head toward Sunahama Beach on Mutsu Bay to see Yokohama Town's coast as well as its flowers. With small children, keep it short and watch wind and footing rather than planning on water play.

Michi-no-Eki Yokohama → Sunahama Beach bathing area → return to Route 279.

The shore can be windy. Follow town guidance on summer access and parking.

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★★☆

A short break works well once you locate the nursing room, baby changing table and multipurpose toilet.

Facilities across the road require a crossing. Changing and feeding the baby before eating may be easier.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Come for toilets, soft serve and doughnuts rather than large play equipment.

With cars moving in and out of the parking area and road, keep children close and make short, planned stops.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Add a treat of rapeseed flower doughnuts or soft serve, then extend to the flower fields in good weather.

Spring fields suit photos and a stroll; in wind or rain, stay at the station.

Primary school children
★★★★☆

Add the rapeseed fields, Shizenen or the Yokohama Town Folk Museum to learn about the area.

Exhibits such as fossils can make a rainy-day route. On event days, allow for crowds and keep the visit short.

Toilets

Beside the parking area and across the road. There is a multipurpose toilet, ostomate facilities and a baby changing table in the women's toilet.

Nursing room

By the 24-hour toilets across the road. Use the crosswalk.

Food

The restaurant opens at 11:00. For a quick bite, choose doughnuts, soft serve or croquettes.

Rainy days

Instead of the flower fields, shop, eat or visit an exhibition at the Yokohama Town Folk Museum.

Ideas for a restful stop

Choose parking close to the entrance

Official notices warn of congestion at the road outside and at parking entrances since Yokohama Interchange opened. Take your time and check walking distance and any road crossing.

  2. 2
Use the toilets and shop first

Make a short stop at the 24-hour toilets and market, choosing easy-to-carry doughnuts, rapeseed oil or honey.

  3. 3
    Plan meals around closing time

The restaurant closes in the afternoon. For lunch, arrive from 11:00; check availability if seafood is your priority.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Rapeseed flower doughnuts make even a short stop distinctive

Official market information and travel reviews often mention rapeseed flower doughnuts and Nanohana soft serve. They work for a child's short break and as souvenirs, even without a restaurant meal.

Scallops appeal, but check current availability

Tourism information and reviews mention scallop salt ramen, scallop rice bowls and croquettes. The official restaurant page currently says scallop dishes are suspended because supply is difficult, so treat these as options only if available and have Sakurahime chicken or fried dishes in mind.

A useful stop on the way to Shimokita

Travel accounts often describe a stop en route to Mutsu and Shimokita. A roughly 30-minute break for toilets, food and shopping may be more practical than a long stay.

In May, look beyond the station to the town

During the Rapeseed Flower Festival, maze and Shizenen flowering season, add the Daizuda area for a fuller visit. Families can use the toilets at the station first, then account for weather and crowds.

In winter, closures and road conditions matter

The station closes on Tuesdays from January to March and the fast EV charger is unavailable on those closure days. Wind, snow and road surfaces affect travel toward Shimokita, so allow flexibility and use the station as a rest stop.

Since Yokohama Interchange opened, plan for congestion too

Official notices warn of traffic on the road outside, parking access and crossings from the parking area opposite after the Yokohama Interchange opened. Allow time at busy periods.
