How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

First, on arrival
Decide when to shop and eat soba

The choice of fresh soba and seasonal fruit changes through the day. Decide early whether to eat first or shop before heading out to play.

For a meal
Make hand-made juwari soba the main choice

The restaurant lists 11:00–19:00, with last orders at 18:30. Weekday lunch and seasonal menus change in official notices.

For shopping
Take home fruit, vegetables and soba

Cherries, blueberries, apples and strawberries each take their turn as Nango's seasonal highlight.

With children
Include Echo Land

Adding the heated pool and open spaces can turn a meal stop into a half-day outing. Bring swimming gear if you may use the pool.

On a rainy day
Choose soba, shopping and the Jazz House

When outdoor play is difficult, focus on a meal and shopping. Covered cherry-picking may be offered in some seasons.

For a summer trip
Blueberries and jazz

Mid-July to mid-August is a guide for blueberry visits. Late July is also the time to check plans for the Nango Summer Jazz Festival.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Soba and fruit make Nango a destination

The station's main draw is juwari soba: noodles made entirely from locally grown buckwheat, stone-milled and hand-made each morning. The produce shop carries blueberries, apples, strawberries, cherries, vegetables, fresh soba and dried soba. Whether you eat at the restaurant or only shop, you can take a taste of Nango home. Fresh soba may sell out later in the day, so shop early if it is your priority.

02

The Jazz House makes an ordinary break more memorable

The Jazz House holds around 6,000 LP records and CDs in total, and offers a place to relax with music. Stop in before or after a meal for a distinctly Nango break. During the summer Nango Summer Jazz Festival, the surrounding area becomes an event destination, so plan it as more than a routine rest stop.

03

With children, include Echo Land in the plan

For a longer family visit, pair the roadside station with the heated pool, open spaces and sports facilities at neighboring Cuckoo Forest Echo Land. On a clear day, children can play outside; in rain or heat, indoor facilities offer another option. This makes it easier to arrange meals, toilets and play around your day.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A drive on the Hachinohe Expressway around lunchtime

Make a soba stop near Nango Interchange your destination

The station is close to Nango Interchange and about 30 minutes by car from central Hachinohe. Even on a travel break, hand-made 100% buckwheat soba makes a worthwhile detour. Companions who do not want soba can browse fruit and vegetables in the produce shop or, when available, have a soft-serve treat.

Nango Interchange → Michi-no-Eki Nango → central Hachinohe or toward Hashikami.

Mealtimes can be busy, and fresh soba to take home may sell out.

Families with preschool and primary-school children who want weather options

Let children get active at Echo Land

A meal and shopping alone may make a short outing for children. Add neighboring Cuckoo Forest Echo Land for its heated pool, open spaces and sports facilities, choosing activities to suit the weather and children's ages. Decide on toilets, meals and whether a change of clothes is needed before setting out.

Main roadside-station building → meal or shopping → Echo Land's open space or heated pool.

Hours, closed days and fees differ by facility. For a pool visit, check information from the facility operator or Hachinohe City.

Fruit picking, produce shopping and a seasonal experience for families

Plan a short harvest trip around seasonal fruit

Strawberries are generally a winter-to-spring crop, cherries early summer, blueberries summer and apples autumn. Check farm reception or information at the roadside station, then combine picking with shopping at the produce shop for a rewarding trip outside Hachinohe.

Michi-no-Eki Nango → visitor farm → produce shop for fruit and soba.

Openings change with weather and crop conditions. Check official notices for current farm openings.

Music lovers and visitors making summer in Nango their destination

Treat a summer jazz day as an event outing

On Nango Summer Jazz Festival day, the roadside station, Jazz House and Echo Land outdoor stage become one destination. Plan for tickets, shuttle buses, food stalls and congestion on the way home, as well as parking and meals.

Michi-no-Eki Nango / Jazz House → Cuckoo Forest Echo Land outdoor stage.

The 2026 festival listed a July 24 eve event and a July 25 main event. Check Hachinohe City and VISIT HACHINOHE for future festival dates.

Autumn leaves, quiet nature and a short drive after lunch

In autumn, continue to Lake Aoba for the scenery

After soba and shopping at the station, drive on to Lake Aoba for Nango's countryside scenery. Fresh greenery, autumn leaves and snow give it different moods; in autumn, views from bridges and lookout points are a particular draw.

Michi-no-Eki Nango → Asamoya no Yakata → Lake Aoba and Yomasari Dam area.

Weather and road conditions matter more as you head into the hills. In winter or toward evening, consider turning back rather than driving farther.

Rest

Ideas for a restful stop

  1. 1
Choose between parking in front of the main building and by the stadium

The listings give 96 spaces in front of the main building and 118 by the stadium. Large-vehicle spaces are described as about a one-minute walk from the main building; choose a place that suits the weather and your footing.

  2. 2
Eat a little before or after the lunch rush

Soba diners may have to wait at busy times. Browse the produce shop first or leave time to rest at the Jazz House.

  3. 3
Keep a rainy-day visit short and mostly indoors

The produce shop, restaurant and Jazz House let you experience Nango without a long outdoor walk.

  4. 4
Head to Lake Aoba while it is still light

The hill-country sights change strongly with the seasons; take particular care in the evening, winter or poor weather.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Soba is the main meal, and a good take-home buy

Visitor comments frequently mention 100% buckwheat or other hand-made soba, as well as fresh and dried soba to buy. Eating at the restaurant or taking noodles home can both make a satisfying Nango stop.

The produce shop changes with fruit season

When cherries, blueberries, apples or strawberries are in season, shopping alone can make a worthwhile stop. Summer blueberries and autumn apples are easy seasonal goals for children.

The wider area makes this a place to play

Visitor comments and tourism listings repeatedly mention the nearby library, cultural hall, pool, park and outdoor stage. Including Echo Land makes a half-day visit possible.

Move indoors on rainy or very hot days

Outdoor play and farm visits depend on weather. Soba, the produce shop, Jazz House and heated pool can help keep the day flexible. With children, plan clothing changes and meal times ahead.

Plan summer jazz days through the journey home

The Nango Summer Jazz Festival is a large event with an outdoor stage, food village, shuttle buses and ticketing. Allow time for the event and the trip home.

Add Lake Aoba or Yamano Gakko in autumn

Nango offers more than food: Lake Aoba's autumn leaves and seasonal events at Yamano Gakko add scenery to the day. Lunch at the station followed by a nature stop is an easy route.
