How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

Start with sweets
Apple pie and gelato

Even a brief stop can feel distinctly Namioka. Apple sweets alone are a reason to visit when you are skipping a sit-down meal.

For a full meal
Brown-rice soba, curry, or the restaurant

Prices and new dishes can change, so check official notices and in-store menus when coming for a meal.

For shopping
Freshly harvested vegetables and fruit

Locally grown vegetables, fruit, and processed foods are the focus at the Namioka Apple Friends Association. Arriving earlier in the day gives you more choice.

Autumn highlight
Apple picking

The officially listed experience period is October 1–31. Growth and weather may change or cancel it, so check the official notice shortly before a visit planned around picking.

A short walk
Namioka Castle ruins and Hanaoka Park

Add history or a park visit to get a fuller sense of Namioka beyond the station.

Akari's detour notes

Namioka is more fun when the apple tasting is only the beginning.

Apple pie or gelato alone is reason enough to stop. But browse apple varieties at the farm stand, pick your own in autumn, and, if time allows, go a little farther to the Namioka Castle ruins or Hanaoka Park. Namioka then becomes a destination in its own right, rather than somewhere you pass on the way to Aomori. Choose brown-rice soba or the restaurant for a meal, apples for sweets, and freshly harvested produce for shopping. If undecided, follow that order.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Namioka, known as Apple Hill, stands on the National Route 7 Namioka Bypass in the Namioka area of Aomori City. Find freshly harvested vegetables and fruit at the Namioka Apple Friends Association farm stand, apple sweets and gelato, brown-rice soba at Michikusa-an, curry at the soba shop, Restaurant Apple Hill, and apple picking from October 1 (the official listed experience period ends October 31). Akari Kazama recommends it as a place to eat apples, shop, and take a short walk when entering or leaving Aomori, beyond a simple rest stop. With more time, continue to the Namioka Castle ruins and Chusei no Yakata museum, Hanaoka Park, or Mount Bonju for a half-day of Tsugaru food, history, and nature.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Apples for meals, souvenirs, and hands-on experiences

Apple sweets, gelato, fruit from the farm stand, and a visitor apple orchard are all at the same station. In autumn, apple picking makes a Namioka stop more than a quick break.

02

Plenty of meal choices

Restaurant Apple Hill, Michikusa-an brown-rice soba, soba shop curry, and light-food counters let you plan a full lunch, a bowl of noodles, or just something sweet.

03

Convenient between Route 7 and Namioka IC

About 8 minutes from Namioka IC and about 15 minutes from Aomori Airport, it is a practical stop for buying produce, using the restroom, eating, and checking events while traveling toward Aomori City, Hirosaki, or Goshogawara.

04

Extend the visit into Tsugaru history and nature

The Namioka Castle ruins and Chusei no Yakata museum are nearby; Hanaoka Park suits a brief outdoor break, and Mount Bonju suits nature watching. Add the castle ruins, park, and forest to the station's apples for a half-day visit.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

20–30-minute break

Pick up apple sweets on a Route 7 break

Choose an apple pie, gelato, soft-serve ice cream, or one apple souvenir. Even when the dining rooms are busy, you can turn to sweets and the farm stand.

Park → sweets → browse the farm stand → restroom → leave.

Popular items can sell out or change. Check official notices and the shop for new menu items.

A meal-focused visit

Make this your lunch stop

For soba, try Michikusa-an; for a casual meal, try soba shop curry; when family members want different things, choose Restaurant Apple Hill. Follow lunch with sweets and a visit to the farm stand.

Meal → apple sweets → souvenir corner.

Hours differ by shop. Closing times are earlier in winter, so take care with a late lunch.

Mid-September to early November as a broad autumn planning window; check the official October 1–31 experience period

Include the apple orchard in an autumn outing

Make picking at the visitor apple orchard the focus for children and adults. Compare varieties at the farm stand, then finish with sweets to connect tasting, shopping, and picking. The officially listed picking period is October 1–31.

Apple picking → farm stand → gelato or apple pie.

Varieties, weather, and availability change the experience. Check official guidance before a visit planned around picking.

Half-day detour

Add history after lunch at Namioka Castle and Chusei no Yakata

Drive a short distance from the station to the Namioka Castle ruins and Chusei no Yakata museum. They reveal Namioka's place in Tsugaru history beyond its food and shopping. Spend more time indoors on rainy days, or walk longer around the ruins when the weather is fine.

Roadside station → Chusei no Yakata → Namioka Castle ruins → return to the station for souvenirs.

Snow, rain, and mud affect walking conditions at the outdoor castle ruins.

Sunny day or outing with children

Extend the trip to flowers and forest

For a short outdoor stop, choose Hanaoka Park; for nature observation, head toward Mount Bonju. Pick up food at the station first to link the driving break with a walk.

Roadside station → Hanaoka Park or Mount Bonju → farm stand on the way back.

Watch mountain weather and snow around Mount Bonju. Avoid going far into the forest without suitable clothing and equipment.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Even sweets alone make this station memorable

Official notices feature changing menu items such as apple and Gorgonzola pizza, and apple sweets vary with the season. Even a short break can feel distinctly Namioka.

The farm stand offers more choice earlier in the day

Nounavi Aomori highlights its freshly harvested vegetables, fruit, and processed foods. If the farm stand is the goal, morning offers more choice than the afternoon.

The orchard is a strong autumn experience

Picking has also been described in broader tourism information as running from mid-September to early November, but the station's listed experience period is October 1–31. Varieties and weather can change availability, so confirm directly before visiting.

There are alternatives when dining areas are busy

With a restaurant, brown-rice soba, soba shop curry, and sweets in separate places, you can switch to a light meal or dessert when lunch areas are busy.

Allow more time for parking and your visit on event days

Official notices listed a cherry blossom festival, apple blossom festival, lavender festival, and 30th anniversary celebration in 2026. Events at the plaza can make the station busier.

Nearby choices divide naturally into history and nature

The Namioka Castle ruins and Chusei no Yakata offer nearby history; Hanaoka Park suits a short outdoor break, and Mount Bonju offers nature observation. Choose according to your group and the weather.
