How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

First stop
Browse apples and processed foods at the farm shop

Check the seasonal produce, apple pies, juice and jam first. Even if you plan to eat at the cafeteria, this makes it easier to decide what to buy.

Something sweet
Add Tsugaru gelato to your break

Gelato made with local ingredients and soft-serve ice cream are good ways to enjoy the station even when you arrive outside lunch hours.

Route
A supply stop five minutes from the interchange, before central Hirosaki

The station lies before the Hirosaki urban area when coming from Owani-Hirosaki Interchange, making it easy to include before Hirosaki Park or on the way back toward Owani Onsen.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Hirosaki, also called Sun Festa Ishikawa, stands on National Route 7 before you enter central Hirosaki from the Tohoku Expressway's Owani-Hirosaki Interchange. In a short stop you can browse apples from the Ishikawa district, apple pies, seasonal gelato and vegetables at the farm shop. It works as a supply stop before Hirosaki Park or a shopping stop on the way back to Owani Onsen. The cafeteria's lunch hours are fairly short; browsing the farm shop and trying something sweet can make the stop worthwhile even without lunch.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Apple country and sweets in one short stop

The Ishikawa district has a particularly strong apple identity even within Hirosaki. Browse fruit and processed products at the farm shop, then move on to apple pie or gelato; even a short break can feel distinctly Hirosaki.

02

A shopping stop that does not depend on lunch

The cafeteria is convenient if you arrive at lunchtime, but its hours are limited. Outside lunch hours, farm-fresh vegetables, apple sweets, juice and soft-serve ice cream still make for a satisfying stop.

03

Convenient between Owani-Hirosaki Interchange and Hirosaki Park

About five minutes after leaving the expressway, you can use the toilet and pick up drinks, sweets and souvenirs before entering central Hirosaki. On the return trip, combine the stop with Owani Onsen or Wani Come for shopping, food and a hot-spring bath.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A day traveling from Owani-Hirosaki Interchange to Hirosaki Park

A 20-minute supply stop before central Hirosaki

After parking, use the toilet and choose processed apple products and drinks at the farm shop. To avoid carrying too much before sightseeing, look separately for a sweet snack to eat in the car and items to buy on the return trip.

Owani-Hirosaki Interchange → Michi-no-Eki Hirosaki → Hirosaki Park and central Hirosaki.

On days with cherry blossom or Neputa festival events in town, leave early to allow for congestion and parking queues near Hirosaki Park.

A weekend drive outside lunch hours

Make apple sweets and shopping the main event

Even if you miss cafeteria hours, Tsugaru gelato, soft-serve ice cream, apple pie and juice give you plenty to enjoy here. The farm shop changes with the seasons: spring wild vegetables, summer vegetables, autumn apples and processed foods suited to winter storage offer different things to browse.

Farm shop → Tsugaru gelato → processed apple products → depart.

Popular sweets and seasonal produce may offer less choice later in the day. If shopping is your aim, morning through early afternoon is a better bet.

A short walk after eating, especially in cherry blossom or hydrangea season

Add a short walk at Daibutsu Park

Daibutsu Park is a natural nearby detour for time outdoors. Its ground is hilly, so keep the walk short with small children or after rain. In flower season, wear comfortable walking shoes.

Michi-no-Eki Hirosaki → Daibutsu Park → central Hirosaki if desired.

The park is reported closed in winter because of snow. Plan it mainly for spring cherry blossoms or early-summer hydrangeas.

Adult travelers, rainy days and winter drives

End the return journey at a hot spring

After shopping and sweets at the station, head south to Owani Onsen and Wani Come for a bath before going home. This route is easier to fit into a rainy day or winter evening than a long walk around central Hirosaki.

Michi-no-Eki Hirosaki → Wani Come → Owani-Hirosaki Interchange or National Route 7.

Wani Come has facility closing days and separate restaurant closing days. Check the day's notices if you want both a bath and a meal.

Akari's pick

Choosing a sweet treat before buying apples makes this stop more fun

There are also places to find Hirosaki souvenirs in the city center. On a driving day, though, I like to look at the apple pie and gelato at Sun Festa Ishikawa first, then browse the farm shop at an easy pace. Even when the cafeteria is closed, sweets and processed apple products make the stop worthwhile.

Buy

Consider apples, juice, jam and seasonal vegetables to take home.

Eat

Gelato or soft-serve ice cream can make even a short break satisfying.

Explore

On a clear day, add Daibutsu Park; in rain or winter, Wani Come makes an easy alternative.

Hours

Opening hours

Farm shop, April through October
9:00-18:00

Farm shop, November through March
9:00-17:30

Winter daylight is short and road conditions can change, so allow extra time for late-afternoon shopping.

Reduced hours are currently advertised. Last orders are around 14:30.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Ages 0–1
★★★☆☆

Useful for a short toilet break and shopping stop.

Treat it as a break during a car journey, rather than a place for a long play session.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Gelato or soft-serve ice cream can provide a change of pace, but there is limited room to run around.

If you add Daibutsu Park, watch the slopes and footing. On rainy days, staying around the station is easier.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Children this age can enjoy choosing a sweet treat and a walk at the nearby park.

Aim for around midday if eating at the cafeteria; for sweets alone, a quieter time is easier.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

A good age for comparing apple varieties and processed products, with Hirosaki Park or Hirosaki City Apple Park before or afterward.

During blossom or harvest season, shopping here can connect with sightseeing nearby.

Toilets

Toilets are available 24 hours. On busy days, using them as soon as you arrive can simplify the stop.

Meals

The cafeteria advertises reduced hours of 10:00–14:45. Allow plenty of time for lunch with children.

Outdoor play

For more space to move around, add Daibutsu Park or Hirosaki City Apple Park rather than relying on the station alone.

Rest

Ideas for a restful stop

  1. 1
Choose between parking by the shop and overflow parking

There are 56 standard car spaces plus overflow parking. If staying a little longer during the day, choose a spot that leaves the shopping area clear for other visitors.

  2. 2
    Browse lightly before buying

Make an initial circuit to decide what you want, then buy heavier apples and drinks at the end to reduce trips back to the car.

  3. 3
Choose a hot spring or park according to the weather

In fair weather from spring to early summer, try Daibutsu Park; on rainy or winter days, add Wani Come for a satisfying half-day without too much exertion.

The official site's notices carry updates that can affect your visit, including wild vegetables, rice, processed products, new items and cafeteria closures.

JA Tsugaru Mirai farm-shop events

Events sometimes involve several nearby farm shops, such as stamp rallies in which visitors collect stamps at multiple locations. Check official notices before a shopping trip so you can include any current event.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Look for apple pie and gelato early

Reviews and travel sites often mention stopping specifically for apple pie or gelato. Some report sellouts, so an earlier visit may be more satisfying if sweets are your priority.

A short visit can still be memorable

Many visitors combine a rest break, shopping and sweets in one stop. It suits a rewarding pause en route to central Hirosaki or the hot springs more than a long stay.

Plan around cafeteria hours

Official information describes the cafeteria as operating reduced hours. Outside lunchtime, sweets and the farm shop become the focus. Come earlier if lunch matters; later in the day, plan around shopping instead.

The farm shop changes with the season

What you can buy changes with the visit: nemagaridake bamboo shoots in early summer, summer vegetables, autumn apples and processed foods in winter. Seasonal sales also appear in official notices, so check what has arrived on the day.

Routes extend south as well as into Hirosaki

The official route to Hirosaki Park takes about 30 minutes by car. Returning south toward Owani Onsen and Wani Come also works well; a hot-spring finish can be a practical alternative to walking in town on rainy or winter days.

Choose the season and footwear for Daibutsu Park

Daibutsu Park is especially appealing for cherry blossoms and hydrangeas, with views from higher ground. Because it is hilly and has a winter closure notice, choose the season and your shoes carefully if adding an outdoor walk.

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.
