Kyuro’s Takikawa notes

Pause here to eat, shop, and choose your next direction.

Editor Kyuro Tachibana sees Michi-no-Eki Takikawa as a helpful rest base on the long National Route 12 drive. Recover with the toilets, parking, and community hall; browse local vegetables and fruit at the farm stand; and add a taste of aigamo duck or rapeseed flowers. In spring, head toward the flowers; in fine weather, toward Maruka Highland and Skypark; when tired, toward the hot spring. It is a place to catch your breath before choosing the next road.

Takikawa grows on you through more than yellow hills and open skies: a well-planned rest stop makes the trip feel better.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Takikawa stands at the Ebeotsu intersection, roughly midway along National Route 12 between Sapporo and Asahikawa. It is a place to rest and shop: the farm stand sells local vegetables and fruit; the shop carries products from Takikawa and its friendship cities, Nago and Tochigi; takeout includes rapeseed-field soft serve and croquettes; and restaurant Kitchen LaLa offers zangi (Hokkaido-style fried chicken) lunch boxes, daily lunches, and a Friday evening dinner buffet. In spring the station serves as a venue for the Rapeseed Flower Festival and a useful place to check information before heading to Maruka Highland or the flower fields. The roads branch east toward Furano and Tokachi and west toward Mashike and Rumoi. Editor Kyuro Tachibana presents it as a station where you can eat, shop, and reconsider your next direction.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Reset a long drive on National Route 12 with food and shopping

The official site describes the station as roughly midway between Sapporo and Asahikawa and as a regional sightseeing base connecting toward National Routes 275 and 38. You can park, use the toilets, shop at the store and farm stand, and eat before calmly choosing your next direction.

02

Rapeseed flowers and aigamo duck quickly convey Takikawa’s character

Hokkaido Michi-no-Eki introduces rapeseed-field soft serve, aigamo nanban soba (buckwheat noodles with duck), aigamo spicy cutlet curry, and station-exclusive apple dorayaki (sweet filled pancakes) and rapeseed-field rice crackers. Even a short stop offers a taste and color of Takikawa.

03

Plan your spring Rapeseed Flower Festival visit here

Takikawa City says rapeseed flowers color the hills from mid to late May, and the station hosts a food festival during the Rapeseed Flower Festival. The fields are working crops, so check the designated venue, bus and taxi options, and parking rules before setting out.

04

Easy to extend a visit to Maruka Highland, Skypark, or a hot spring

Nearby are the Maruka Highland viewpoint parking area, about 3.5 km south of the station intersection; Takikawa Skypark, known for glider experiences; and Takikawa Fureai no Sato, with hot springs and camping. Depending on the weather, you can turn a rest stop into a half-day outing.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A long drive on National Route 12

Make it a midway break between Sapporo and Asahikawa

Park, use the toilets, pause in the community hall, and make a quick circuit of the shop and farm stand. Even when you do not have time for a full meal, rapeseed-field soft serve, croquettes, or a lunch box make a distinctly Takikawa short break.

Parking → toilets → farm stand → takeout → road information before departure.

For an evening stop, check the seasonal hours of the shop and farm stand first.

A break with a meal

Make aigamo duck dishes the reason for lunch

Takikawa is strongly associated with aigamo duck. If you want aigamo nanban soba or aigamo spicy cutlet curry, plan around the restaurant’s serving hours. At busy times, leave room to switch to a lunch box or takeout.

Restaurant → station-exclusive souvenirs in the shop → farm stand.

Kitchen LaLa has separate midday, afternoon, and Friday evening periods; check its latest information.

A Takikawa trip from mid to late May

Use the station as a Rapeseed Flower Festival base

In rapeseed-flower season, pick up food-festival and sightseeing information at the station, then go to the designated venue or Maruka Highland. Some fields have no nearby parking, so decide in advance whether to view them from your vehicle or use a bus or taxi.

Roadside station → designated rapeseed-flower venue → Maruka Highland viewpoint.

The fields are working crops. Avoid entering anywhere outside the designated venue, and do not park or stop on the road.

Families with children, vehicle enthusiasts, and fine days

Continue into Takikawa, a town of skies

Takikawa Skypark is a place to feel the city’s glider identity. Eat and use the toilets at the station, then check weather and flight information before going. That helps you plan either a viewing visit or a day aiming for an experience.

Roadside station → Takikawa Skypark → Takikawa Fureai no Sato.

Flight experiences and events depend on weather, equipment, and reservations.

Rainy days, winter, or after a long drive

Finish a half-day break at a hot spring

When outdoor scenery is hard to enjoy for long, eat and shop at the roadside station, then rest at the hot spring at Takikawa Fureai no Sato. The station is also useful for shopping before or after a camping or cottage stay.

Farm stand → Kitchen LaLa → Takikawa Fureai no Sato.

Check official opening days and prices for the hot spring, camping, and winter use.
