Michika Tsukioka's Nakasatsunai notes

This is a stop where you can decide on dinner and a side trip while taking a break.

Michika Tsukioka describes Nakasatsunai as a place where one stop on Route 236 shows you what to eat, what to take home and where to go next. Once parked, check the toilets and which shops are open, then decide whether Inakadori chicken, eggs, beans, cheese or vegetables will be the main attraction. With children, include the indoor play equipment and lawn; with more time, continue to Rokka no Mori or Satsunaigawa Park.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Nakasatsunai is a rest stop on National Route 236 connecting central Obihiro, Tokachi Obihiro Airport and the Hiroo area. Country Plaza, Kansuizan, the Bean Museum, the Pioneer Memorial Museum and a lawn are gathered here. Even on a short stop, you can choose fried Nakasatsunai Inakadori chicken, meals made with village ingredients, Tokachino Fromage gelato, eggs from a vending machine and local vegetables. A children's play area, 24-hour toilets and a 24-hour nursing room make it convenient for families on a drive. Extend the trip to Rokka no Mori, Nakasatsunai Art Village, Hanabatake Ranch or Satsunaigawa Park for flowers, art, a ranch and waterside scenery near the Hidaka Mountains; the outing can grow from a stop for food and shopping into a half or full day.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Eat local Nakasatsunai food here and shop to take some home

The official site lists a Western-style restaurant using village ingredients, Inakadori chicken dishes, takeaway food, gelato from a cheese maker, vegetables from local farmers, specialties and an egg vending machine. You can combine lunch, a snack and chilled purchases to take home on one site.

02

Facilities make it easy to pause a drive with children

Country Plaza has a large indoor play area for children through second grade of elementary school, a baby area, a nursing room and 24-hour toilets. It helps families break up a long drive and fill time before or after a meal.

03

See the village's character at the Bean Museum and Pioneer Memorial Museum

The Bean Museum, known as Beans House, displays beans from around the world and recipes. The Pioneer Memorial Museum occupies a relocated pioneer farmhouse and introduces village history and everyday life. Beyond shopping for food, these offer a short look at how agriculture has shaped Nakasatsunai.

04

Continue to Rokka no Mori, Hanabatake Ranch and Satsunaigawa Park

Nearby Rokka no Mori and Nakasatsunai Art Village offer flowers and art, Hanabatake Ranch offers ranch food, and Satsunaigawa Park offers waterside scenery and a waterfall near the Hidaka Mountains. The station can be the starting point for a full day in Nakasatsunai as well as a rest stop.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

En route between Obihiro, the airport and the Hiroo area

Make a Route 236 lunch stop for Inakadori chicken and farm shopping

After parking, check which shops are open at Country Plaza. For a full lunch, try Weathercock Cafe or Sen Salvatore 12; for a shorter stop, choose fried chicken or gelato. After eating, pick up something for dinner at the produce shop and egg vending machine for a taste of Nakasatsunai at home.

Park → check open shops → eat or get takeaway → shop for produce and eggs → toilets.

Some Kansuizan shops close for winter or shorten their hours. If you have a specific shop in mind, check the official monthly opening information.

Family breaks during a long drive

Let the children reset before getting back on the road

Younger elementary school children can move around in the indoor play area. Families with babies can use the nursing room and 24-hour toilets. In fine weather, get some air on the lawn; in rain or strong heat, combine a short indoor break with shopping.

Toilets → play area → snack or sweets → lawn or shopping.

Observe the play area's age limit and adult supervision rule; keep visits brief when it is crowded.

A short adult visit or a rainy day

See the food's background at the Bean Museum and Pioneer Memorial Museum

Before or after shopping, add the Bean Museum, Beans House, and the Pioneer Memorial Museum. They give the village's beans and vegetables a context in local farming and daily life. Even in poor weather, you can find something distinctly Nakasatsunai within the station grounds.

Country Plaza → Bean Museum → Pioneer Memorial Museum → produce shop.

The Pioneer Memorial Museum closes in winter, while the Bean Museum closes on Mondays in winter; schedules vary by season.

A sunny day from May through October

Add flowers and art at Rokka no Mori and Nakasatsunai Art Village

Eat and use the toilets at the station, then head to Rokka no Mori or Nakasatsunai Art Village. Walking among flowers, trees and galleries takes time, so the station works well for a meal and an initial look at what to buy.

Roadside station → Rokka no Mori → Nakasatsunai Art Village, or in reverse order.

Rokkatei facilities change their opening seasons, monthly hours and admission fees from year to year. Check the official information for the year of your visit.

A half day devoted to nature

Continue to Satsunaigawa Park and finish by the Hidaka Mountains' waterside

If you have time, eat and stock up at the station before going to Satsunaigawa Park. Walk near Pyoutan Falls, the mountain center and campsite for a change from a highway rest stop to the foothills of the Hidaka Mountains.

Roadside station → Satsunaigawa Park and Pyoutan Falls → return journey.

Satsunaigawa Park closes in winter. Check the weather and road conditions toward the mountains.

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★★☆

The Mamaro nursing room, 24-hour nursing room and 24-hour toilets make a short break easier.

Avoid a long stay at peak mealtimes; taking care of feeding and diaper changes and checking the shop first may help.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

The baby area, children's play area and lawn make it easier to reset.

An adult must accompany children on the indoor equipment. If it is crowded, switch to a treat or the lawn.

Ages 4–6

The large play equipment, lawn, Bean Museum, fried chicken and gelato can make even a short stop enjoyable.

Add Rokka no Mori or Hanabatake Ranch for a half-day outing.

Elementary school children

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

The station has several buildings; walk between dining, farm shopping and play areas

The official site map separates Country Plaza, Kansuizan, the Bean Museum, the Pioneer Memorial Museum, an event area and the lawn. On a first visit, check which shops are open before heading to a specific one.

Inakadori chicken, gelato, eggs and vegetables give even a short stop a local feel

On the official eating and shopping pages, Inakadori chicken dishes, cheese maker's gelato, vegetables from local farmers and the egg vending machine stand out. Even without time for lunch, shopping and a snack offer a taste of Nakasatsunai.

Many shops have winter closures or shorter winter hours

Some Kansuizan shops, Tokachino Fromage's roadside station branch, Hatake no Kitchen and the produce shop are listed with winter closures or shorter hours. In winter, check individual shops rather than relying only on the station's overall hours.

Use the second parking lot to the south when the front lot is full

The Nakasatsunai Village Tourism Association directs visitors to the second parking lot on the south side if the front lot is full. On weekends and event days, this gives you another option.

Families can switch easily between indoor and outdoor breaks

The official site lists a play area for children through second grade, a baby area, a lawn, 24-hour toilets and a 24-hour nursing room. Use the indoor space in rain or heat and the lawn on a fine day.

The opening seasons of Rokka no Mori and Nakasatsunai Art Village shape the itinerary

According to Rokkatei's official site, Rokka no Mori opens from April 24 to October 12, 2026, and Nakasatsunai Art Village from April 29 to October 31, 2026. On sunny days from spring to autumn, the station works as a starting point for food and supplies.

Travel reviews tend to pair the station with the Bean Museum, Rokka no Mori and the Pioneer Memorial Museum

Travel sites mention the Bean Museum and Pioneer Memorial Museum within walking distance and Rokka no Mori as a nearby attraction. Many visitors plan a stay that includes nearby flowers, art and history as well as the station.
